Summary- The story, “The Fellowship of the Ring” takes place in a land called “Middle Earth” long ago. The main character, Frodo, is a hobbit, has three friends who are also hobbits. Hobbits are short, friendly, hairy people who crave warm and hearty meals. Hobbits normally never travel, but in this story the four friends, Frodo, Sam, Pippin, and Merry set out on the biggest adventure of their lives.
The story starts with Frodo getting a magical ring from one of his older cousins, Bilbo. Bilbo had found the ring on a quest many years ago (as described in “The Hobbit”). The ring has the power to turn anyone invisible, control people, and control all other magical rings created by men, dwarfs, and elves. Frodo soon must leave his home in the Shire with his friends to destroy the ring and keep the ring from its creator, Sauron who wants his ring back. Sauron’s spies, the ring wraiths, follow Frodo attempting to steal it from him. To find out what happens to the ring, you have to read the book!
Rating and Recommendation- I would rate this book five out of five stars. I loved the characters friendship and the world the author created. I would recommend this book for 4th graders and higher because the plot is complicated. But keep in mind; to understand this book, you have to read the prequel, the hobbit. Over all, this is a great book!
